This first course in integrative pathophysiology investigates the genetic, environmental, lifestyle, and ethical and social factors that contribute to the development and progression of disease across important body systems. Using a multidisciplinary approach, students will analyze the cellular, tissue, organ, and systemic alterations associated with common disease pathologies. By practicing problem solving through case based assessments, this course equips students with advanced knowledge and skills in integrative pathophysiology. This prepares students to address complex disease processes in an evidence-based integrative manner to promote holistic health and wellness in clinical practice, research, and public health initiatives.
Use principles of pathophysiology to evaluate human disease.
Evaluate the risk factors for common human diseases to determine if they are modifiable.
Assess symptoms of acute and chronic illness and local and systemic conditions.
Summarize concepts related to pathophysiologic processes that result in the development of disease.
Discuss types of diseases and conditions, clinical manifestations, and related prognosis.
Develop wellness support protocols for application in clinical practice, health care education programs, or retail environments.
