Homeopathy has become an increasingly popular modality in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), particularly in an integrated medical setting due to its ability to enhance quality of life for a wide range of patients. Many pharmacies now stock and dispense homeopathic medicine. This graduate level survey course will take students on an in-depth tour of the fundamental principles of classical homeopathy. The course focuses on a scientific approach to this system of medicine that originated in India more than 2000 years ago. It is designed to assist graduate students to evaluate this (CAM) modality in terms of its clinical, scientific, philosophical, sociological, and historical contexts. We look at how homeopathy is practiced, and how the application of principles in the clinical setting helps clinicians, and patients understand the process of seeing a homeopath. The course also reviews the pharmacological aspects of homeopathy including manufacturing, dispensing, and counter-prescribing.
