This course introduces the business case for organizational decisions and actions which consider financial, environmental, and social impacts. With an emphasis on practical application and a global mindset, topics include an overview of the role information technology plays in organizational effectiveness and the management of risk and the importance of approaching business administration through project managers focus on successful execution. Students take a deeper look at motivation, individual and group behaviors, leadership, power and organizational politics, social determinants related to access and opportunity, and organizational culture in support of business practices designed for effectiveness in a global setting. Practice will be informed by a foundation of supporting theory on organizational behavior and principles of financial, social, and environmental sustainability.

Learning Outcomes

Apply critical thinking skills to evaluate course readings and participate in discussions.
Demonstrate collaborate learning and communication skills suitable for a distributed and potentially global workforce, including the ability to effectively use MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications for business purposes.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of sustainability fundamentals and the related opportunities, trends, and challenges resulting from a systems-thinking approach to sustainable business management.
Apply and communicate self-assessment results and reflections on leadership research to identify and evaluate personal leadership strengths, an analysis of potential personal and professional obstacles to leadership development, and the creation of a viable action plan for continued leadership development in a global setting.
Identify and understand key leadership, team process, and management concepts, application to personal and professional development, and the ability to relate them to current global business realities through a lens of sustainable practices.
Produce and present a research-based plan that demonstrates analysis, evaluation, and recommendations for optimizing workforce diversity, including but not limited to intergenerational and multicultural differences, and the influence these dynamics have on an organization committed to pursuing sustainable practices in a global business environment.
