FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Portland, OR—July 21, 2015—The Better Business Bureau (BBB) selected American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) as a Business of the Year Finalist for the 2015 BBB Torch Awards. ACHS proudly accepted a Finalist Certificate in recognition of the College’s ongoing commitment to ethical business practices deserving of marketplace trust. The BBB Torch Award is an annual regional competition. Candidates are evaluated and recipients selected by a panel of independent judges from the business and academic communities.

The BBB annual Business of the Year Torch Awards honor businesses that demonstrate excellence in the marketplace. Every year, one business in each of the BBB’s service areas—Alaska, Oregon, and Western Washington—is selected to receive BBB’s prestigious award in the small, medium, and large business categories.

ACHS, founded in 1978 in New Zealand, originally offered just one distance program in herbal medicine. Today, ACHS is one of the only accredited, fully online holistic health colleges offering undergraduate and graduate degrees, diplomas, career-training certifications, and continuing education courses in integrative medicine topics like aromatherapy, herbal medicine, and holistic nutrition. ACHS provides 30 Oregon jobs, enrolls numerous students in Oregon, and serves students in nearly 80 countries worldwide. ACHS also recently ranked number 12 in Oregon Business magazine’s 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon.

Through actively living the ACHS mission—to provide leadership in holistic health education through comprehensive professional online and on-campus education and high-quality natural products with a commitment to sustainable practices and principles—ACHS has earned marketplace trust. By maintaining values that respect students, graduates, customers, employees, faculty, and suppliers—and by operating with integrity deserving of their trust—ACHS strives to foster competence, professionalism, and cooperation in holistic healthcare and works to preserve and share knowledge in natural medicine.

Honored to be named a BBB Torch Award Finalist, ACHS Founder and President Dorene Petersen attributes this recognition to the dedication of her handpicked team of employees who share the College’s core values and commitment to customer service, high quality, and ethical transparency.

“I came to Oregon from New Zealand in the 90’s to be close to my now husband. I was excited when I realized it’s the ideal place to grow an ethical, sustainable business. Oregonians hold high standards for the companies they do business with,” Petersen says. “I’m honored that ACHS has a positive role to play in the Pacific Northwest’s championing of environmentally friendly and ethical business practices.”
