ACHS Holistic Health Continuing Education Courses Approval Renewed by Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine

Portland, OR— October 20, 2014—Naturopathic physicians practice naturopathic medicine as primary care physicians who focus on the art and science of natural medicine. Naturopathic medicine and naturopathic physicians (NDs) have been licensed in Oregon since 1927. “Naturopathy is continuing to grow, granting the public reliable access to natural medicine and remedies,” says Dorene Petersen, Founder and President of the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS), an accredited online holistic health college. “Our mission here at ACHS is to promote competence and professionalism in the holistic healthcare industry as well as to share credible knowledge in natural medicine. Like most licensed professions, naturopathic physicians are held to a high standard of service and professional ethics, including 50 hours of annual, approved physician continuing education. “There is a need for healthcare professionals from diverse professions to be taught when and how to collaborate,” says Dr. Clyde B. Jensen, Vice President of University Relations at The University of Western States and a member of the ACHS Board of Directors. “Because curricula are too congested to allow additional content, the best place for such inter-professional instruction is in continuing education programs.”
ACHS has met the rigorous review process of the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine (OBNM), and the Board has renewed ACHS’s approval as an approved continuing education provider for naturopathic physicians. The OBNM ensures that licensees are qualified to provide healthcare to Oregonians and develops standards of care in order to maintain a high level of integrity and performance in the practice of naturopathic medicine.
ACHS is OBNM-approved to award continuing education credits to physicians who complete all requirements for the continuing education courses CE 511 Advanced Herbal Materia Medica Online (4.0 CE hours), a four-week, fully online course investigating research and clinical evidence for herbs with medicinal potential; CE 512 Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry (4.0 CE hours), a four-week, fully online course examining the major categories and subcategories of herbal constituents as a framework for understanding how molecules contribute to an herb’s observable actions; and CE 520 Advanced Aromatic Materia Medica, a four-week, fully online course investigating research and clinical evidence for essential oils with therapeutic potential.
