Portland, Oregon—October 11, 2013—American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) faculty member, Amanda Lattin, achieved Registered Aromatherapist (RA) status from the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) in April 2013 by successfully passing the ARC examination. ARC is a national organization that offers the Registered Aromatherapist exam twice a year both within the USA and internationally through the New York-based Professional Testing Corporation. ARC, a non-profit public benefit corporation established in 1999, provides a register of professional Registered Aromatherapists, which can be accessed by the public at aromatherapycouncil.org. The ARC Register recognizes aromatherapists, such as Lattin, who have demonstrated a core body of aromatherapy knowledge, specifically concerning essential oil safety, through successfully passing the examination, thus ensuring credibility to the public and other medical professionals.

“We at ACHS are pleased to have a professional educator and serious practitioner of aromatherapy like Amanda on our faculty serving our diverse students and graduates who are currently advancing research and professionalism within the aromatherapy industry around the world and providing the public with an option for a safe, natural, and complementary form of healthcare,” says ACHS Founder and President, Dorene Petersen.

Lattin has had a passion for growing and using nutritional and medicinal plants since she planted her first garden at age six. She followed this passion and inquiry while finishing her B.A. in Chemistry at Huntingdon College, where she performed research on Ionic Liquids, the Study of Chinese Culture through Chemical Analysis, and Transitional Metal Oxides in Tattoo Pigments. She also traveled to China with Huntingdon College to share water quality research after the opening of the Three Gorges Dam.

Lattin continued her education by completing her Master’s of Teaching with a concentration in Chemistry at Lewis and Clark College. There her thesis designed curriculum about the Geochemistry of the Oregon John Day Region. After teaching chemistry at West Linn High School, Lattin returned to her interest in medicinal plants and began studying essential oils with Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt at the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy. She continued her studies by completing her diplomas in Aromatherapy and Herbal Studies at ACHS. Lattin also trained for a year in Applied Kinesiology with Dr. Robert Ciprian, DC, D.I.B.A.K.

Lattin taught the chemistry of essential oils at the College of Botanical Healing Arts in Santa Cruz, as well as a variety of workshops and seminars. She has written articles on aromatherapy and serves as a subject consultant for various schools. Lattin’s Aromatherapy and Herbal Consulting practice has continued to serve Portland residents since 2008. She is now on staff at ACHS as both a faculty member and researcher.

ACHS is the only nationally accredited, Alliance of International Aromatherapists Level II and III professional clinical aromatherapy training available in the United States.
