Portland, Ore.—January 6, 2020—American College of Healthcare Sciences’ (ACHS) president and founder, Dorene Petersen, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Dr. Nicole Betschman as the college’s new integrative health and wellness program chair.

As integrative health and wellness program chair, Betschman will continue to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in integrative health and wellness. She will also work with the college’s Center for Excellence in Teaching, Technology, and Assessment (CETTA) to conduct integrative health and wellness program reviews, research collaborations with industry credentialing organizations, and develop new course offerings. She will also be speaking at the May 2020 Annual National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP) Conference, HealCon, in Newport Beach, CA.

ACHS President Dorene Petersen shared, “ACHS is thrilled to announce the appointment of Professor Dr. Nicole Betschman as the ACHS Integrative Health and Wellness Program Chair. Dr. Betschman brings a unique combination of skills and experience to her role, including expertise in health education and health promotion, clinical experience in community and personal health, and experience working with diverse communities. Nicole brings passion and enthusiasm to her work across campus at ACHS, and we are excited to have her leadership for our Integrative Health and Wellness Department.”

Betschman has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Bowling Green State University and both a Bachelor’s of Science and a Master of Arts degree in Health Education from East Carolina University. Nicole also holds a Doctorate degree in Health Education from A.T. Still University with a research focus on drug and alcohol addiction. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and is a Wellness and Health Coach.

“I am very excited to bring health education and community health to the department.  I have always been rooted in the community and being able to tie integrative health into community health is new but very much overdue,” Betschman says.

Betschman has had several years of teaching experience at the university level starting in 2009 as a graduate assistant for East Carolina University. She worked for the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as a Research Assistant on a federally funded grant by the NIH to examine how community-, family-, and individual-level stressors may influence and interact with biological factors to affect maternal and child health. She has also worked as a health coach in Baltimore, MD, to help reduce hospital readmission rates for Medicare patients by using the Coleman model.
