San Antonio, Texas, April 16, 2024 – American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) President and CEO Tracey Abell and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tiffany Rodriguez joined higher education leaders and educators from across the U.S. and internationally at the Omni La Mansion Del Rio hotel in San Antonio, Texas, this past week to attend the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) Annual Conference.

The DEAC Conferences bring innovative online educators, regulatory leaders, and accreditation experts together to discuss the latest trends and innovative approaches in distance education. The 2024 Conference featured presenters Melanie Gottlieb, Executive Director of the American Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), and Margit Schatzman, President of Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc., who shared insights on their work to promote equity in transfer credit evaluations and collaboration on the development of the United States Qualification Framework. There were also many engaging sessions on the use of AI to support learning and teaching, impactful institutional effectiveness strategies, trends in international education practices, and opportunities for collaboration with other nations.

“Learning from and sharing ideas with our DEAC colleagues is always a highlight of our Spring conferences. It was refreshing to learn about support for promoting equitable learning pathways from Melanie Gottlieb of AACRAO, who is showing up for students and institutions as an important voice in working to eliminate longstanding bias in transfer credit policies. It was also insightful to learn more about the work to align U.S. education standards with international frameworks that will provide more mobility and opportunities for all students,” shares ACHS President Tracey Abell.

The Distance Education Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency and recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). ACHS has been accredited by DEAC since 2003 and achieved its 5-year reaccreditation in July 2023.

“At this year’s DEAC Conference, we actively explored cutting-edge practices in online education, emphasizing the critical role of technological innovation in enhancing academic delivery and student engagement. we remain committed to ensuring that each student benefits from an accessible, high-quality learning experience that prepares them for the future. This conference has been pivotal in shaping our strategies to continue leading in holistic health education.” adds ACHS Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tiffany Rodriguez.
