Heather Baley, Senior Student Advisor
Heather joined the American College in late 2001. She has a background in the hospitality industry, social services, and accounting. Heather graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Sociology and attended graduate school at Central Michigan University.
Today, Heather has immersed herself in aromatherapy. She has completed the Certificate in Aromatherapy program and enjoys making blends for herself and friends. Heather moved to Kailua-Kona in January of 2017. In her spare time, she loves to explore the Big Island, volunteer, and learn everything she can about Hawaiian culture and medicinal plants.
Joel Strimling, Senior Student Advisor
Joel Strimling joined the American College in late 2005 with a diverse background and excited attitude. He brings with him over seven years of Marketing, Management, and Customer Service as well as a technical background. He has also had positions from wild land firefighting, to C.N.A., to technical management, and even a stint teaching martial arts. He is proud to have such a mix of experiences. Joel draws upon all of his experiences in assisting others using his varied path to develop his understanding of diversity.
Joel’s natural health experiences come from nutritive competitive needs as well as outdoor interests and experiences. In his free time you might find Joel hiking or cooking, but most likely you will find him fishing one of his favorite rivers around the Northwest.
Jill Trujillo, Student Success Coach
Jill considers it a privilege to spend her professional career supporting students to meet their personal, academic, and career goals through student success coaching. She spent over 8 years working on the Texas State University campus and built a reputation for providing effective and engaging college success coaching and programming to first-generation students, students meeting the low-income threshold, and students with disabilities. Known for her DEI work and creative solutions, Jill is committed to supporting with a human/student first lens. As a first-generation and TRIO alumnus, Jill is a proud product of success coaching, and is excited to join the ACHS Student Success team with the goal to enhance student’s collegiate experience through student success coaching.
When she is not serving in the remote coaching position, she can be found behind a camera, engaging in local activism, on the nearby river kayaking with her wife, or trying to catch a wave on the coast. Jill tries to operate in a peaceful state of mind, guided by her family’s principles of: smiling often, loving without borders, supporting the community, and keeping the kitchen open for all!

Jenn Pizzuto, Student Success Coach
Jenn joined ACHS in July 2021, bringing with her an extensive career in higher education. Having spent nearly two decades at the College of Staten Island – City University of New York, she most recently served there as a Program Coordinator for CUNY Start and Math Start programs, designed to address equity gaps and help matriculate students by providing intense support using a strength-based, student-centered approach. Jenn is proud of her accomplishments in that role including leading a student food pantry, developing seminar curriculum, co-chairing Antiracism professional development for staff, and co-creating a “Student Voice Matters” club. Jenn has also served as an Academic Counselor and Accommodation Specialist at CUNY and is a great advocate for an equitable playing field in higher education. She spent many years as the Program Coordinator of Strategies for Success Mentoring Program as a part of the school’s Higher Education Opportunity Program.
As part of her diverse portfolio, Jenn also served as an adjunct professor of English for over a decade. Growing up in the New York metro area, Jenn graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative Writing from the College of Staten Island and received her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing/ Poetry from Brooklyn College.
Jenn now resides in South River, N.J., where she is involved in her community’s borough Human Relations Commission. She is active in practicing a holistic lifestyle and is a lifelong student of yoga philosophy, specifically how it connects to racial justice work. Jenn believes deeply that engaging with balanced nutrition is the gateway to creating an optimal lifestyle. She lives with her husband, David, twin stepdaughters Sabrina and Liliana, and her dog, Tobias.
