Dr. Hill Taylor is ACHS' new chief academic officer

Portland, Ore.—February 7, 2020—American College of Healthcare Sciences’ (ACHS) president and founder, Dorene Petersen, is pleased to announce the appointment of Hill Taylor, Ph.D., as the college’s new Chief Academic Officer.

As Chief Academic Officer, Hill will work in collaboration with the Board of Directors, President, Chief Operating Officer, Center for Excellence in Teaching, Technology and Assessment (CETTA) Team, Program Chairs and other stakeholders across the institution to support ACHS’s culture of commitment to student retention and success, academic integrity, curriculum development and implementation, and all aspects of higher education compliance.

“Hill is an extremely accomplished educator and researcher. He brings a unique and diverse perspective and skill set that aligns with our college mission and vision and will contribute to the success of our future strategic initiatives and continued growth of our innovative and experiential educational programs,” shared ACHS President Dorene Petersen.

Taylor earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Masters degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; and a Bachelor’s degree at North Carolina State University. He is also an active member of various professional organizations, including the Western Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, American Public Health Association, and National Council of Teachers of English.

“I am ecstatic to join the ACHS team! Throughout my career, I’ve taught and supervised in a variety of contexts, ranging from humanities departments to schools of nursing and medicine. These collective experiences make me a good fit for the multidisciplinary knowledge and innovative opportunities in holistic health that ACHS offers,” Taylor says. “Holistic health and integrative medicine play a central role in my own life and way of being. I love spending time outside, especially in or on the water. My creative and intellectual curiosity focuses on the role of water, especially the ocean, in offering soulful and psychological edification. It’s a great honor to work with intelligent and aware faculty and staff, as well as students who are following their passion and bliss.”

Taylor comes to ACHS from Oregon Health & Science University, where he served as Director of the Office of Learning Support for seven years, and led OHSU WRITEs, a core OHSU Interprofessional Initiative. Taylor’s professional experience is extensive and diverse. He holds over 20 years of experience teaching traditional, hybrid, and online courses in the health sciences, humanities, and social sciences in myriad settings, including universities, colleges, and community colleges. His research focuses on applications of poetry in creative and therapeutic contexts, and multimodal journaling for mindfulness-based reflection, particularly within the health sciences. Taylor applies tenets of ecopsychology as a means for mindfulness-based student reflection and impetus for composition.
