Portland, Ore.—May 28, 2021—American College of Healthcare Sciences’ (ACHS) President and Founder, Dorene Petersen, is excited to announce ACHS nutrition professor Abbey Skinner’s appointment as Social Science Program Coordinator and Whole Health Coach with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Skinner will serve as the Social Science Program Coordinator and Whole Health Coach while continuing in her role as professor at ACHS. In her new role, she will help veterans along their Whole Health journey. Whole Health is a new program that was initiated in the VA healthcare system in 2018, and includes integrative health modalities such as Whole Health Coaching, nutrition, mindfulness, yoga, massage therapy, chiropractic care and more.
“I’m excited about this new opportunity because for 20 years I’ve dreamed of the day veterans would have access to holistic healthcare, and now I get to be a part of the process. Words can’t express how happy I am to be fortunate enough to combine my passions of teaching with ACHS and helping veterans learn the ‘whole-istic’ approach; it’s my dream come true,” Skinner shared.
Skinner is an Air Force veteran with 14 years of active duty service. She has always had a passion for holistic health and discovered her love for teaching while on a special duty assignment for three years as an instructor for the Community College of the Air Force. In May of 2014, Skinner separated from the Air Force to pursue her dreams of education, teaching, and helping others. Skinner earned her Diploma in Holistic Health Practice from American College of Healthcare Sciences in 2008.
