Mike was born in Portland, Oregon. He began working in financial aid in 2010 because he enjoys helping others and wanted to improve the experience for students after facing his own challenges with the process. He worked with Shauna Wing for many years at a previous school, and when she reached out about an open position, he was excited to learn more. He appreciates that the school is based in Oregon and focuses on educating students about natural remedies and alternatives to pharmaceutical solutions.
Over the years, Mike has held various roles in financial aid, including advisor, assistant director, director, and compliance, all of which have shaped his career. With decades of customer service experience, he values helping and listening to people, ensuring they feel comfortable with the information he provides. He also enjoys collaborating with others and facilitating meaningful communication to achieve common goals. His strengths include problem-solving, conflict resolution, mentoring, and contributing an uplifting spirit to the team.
On a personal level, Mike is proud to be married to his wife, who still enjoys spending time with him after all these years. He is also a dedicated father to two children who, despite reaching the age where their friends are becoming the priority, still enjoy spending time with him every day. One of his most cherished experiences was taking a year off from everyday life to travel the country with his family in their RV, along with their cat, Stella. He is also proud of the connections he has built with students over the years and the role he has played in helping them achieve their lifelong educational goals.
“Working in a field that requires talking about money and financial solutions is stressful for most people. I enjoy connecting with people who may have a high level of stress coming in, taking the time to listen and address their concerns, and replacing their stress with comfort and excitement moving forward.“
