Abbey is from Florida. At the young age of 8, she experienced serious health issues that left doctors uncertain about how to help her. Around the same time, her younger brother was diagnosed with autism at just 1 year old, and doctors were equally unsure of how to support him. Abbey and her brother suffered, and with little guidance from the medical community, she realized early on that she wanted to dedicate her life to helping others so they wouldn’t have to endure the same struggles. This realization led her to holistic health.
Holistic health became a necessity for Abbey’s survival and has remained central to her life. She discovered her passion for teaching while serving in the Air Force at the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). Since then, she has combined her two greatest passions—holistic health and education.
Abbey was inspired to pursue holistic health education by the quote: “Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.”
One of her proudest accomplishments is her time teaching for the Community College of the Air Force. She has a deep fascination with the human body and has extensively studied the foundational root causes of dysfunction, as well as natural methods for healing. In addition to teaching, she spent three years writing courses in the Air Force, developing expertise in course and curriculum design.
Her experience in healthcare extends beyond holistic practices. Abbey worked in a hospital at the Fargo VA, giving her firsthand knowledge of conventional medicine. As a 14-year Air Force veteran, she connects with veteran students in a way that only those who have served can truly understand. She is deeply committed to ensuring that students receive up-to-date, evidence-based information that will benefit both them and their clients. She leads by example, embodying the principles she teaches.
Certifications & Special Qualifications:
Beyond her teaching and healthcare work, Abbey is an advocate for sustainable food systems. She wrote and received a grant for the Prickly Pear Food Co-op in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, bringing organic, local food to a community where such resources were previously unavailable. She also serves as a board member of the North Dakota Post 20 AMVETS (American Veterans).
Being a veteran is an integral part of Abbey’s identity, and she takes great pride in her role as an educator. She has been honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award (nominated by students) five different years and continues to receive messages of gratitude from students who appreciate her dedication and authenticity.
Abbey hopes to share this sentiment with others: “Plant seeds of truth, question everything, and learn from watching nature.”
