FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portland, OR— June 22, 2015—After 12 years serving online students and the local community in John’s Landing (and 14 years previously in Lake Oswego, OR), American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) announces its relocation to a new expanded campus on SW Macadam Avenue.
Like the previous campus, the new ACHS office location is situated in the heart of John’s Landing (5005 S. Macadam Ave., Portland, OR 97239)—an area quickly becoming Portland’s go-to neighborhood for health and wellness and just a few minutes from downtown Portland.
ACHS specializes in accredited, online programs in health and wellness—from aromatherapy to holistic nutrition to herbal medicine—and offers classes for the beginner through graduate-level degree programs. While ACHS specializes in online education, community education is an integral part of the institution’s social mission. The new campus provides additional classroom space for community outreach, including public lectures and workshops.
“Educating our local community is an important part of the College mission,” says Dorene Petersen, ACHS Founder and President. “The new campus will feature a state-of-the-art classroom with an interactive touch screen display system for community classes and workshops. We plan to host innovative and practical live events on important health and wellness topics like herbal medicine at home, organic gardening, DIY juicing, aromatherapy, among many others.”
The new campus also upholds ACHS’s “green” and environmentally conscious values (such as office-wide composting and recycling) that earned it number 12 on Oregon Business magazine’s 2015 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon list. ACHS also received an early design incentive award from Energy Trust of Oregon to focus on sustainability strategies, and integrating energy saving opportunities into the new building remodel, including lighting occupancy sensors and Dyson Airblade hand dryers in all restrooms to reduce paper waste.
“I am very excited about the possibilities of this new space,” Petersen adds. “It’s an ideal landscape for interactive learning––both on-campus and online. Our students and graduates are trailblazers in the holistic health community. They write books, teach workshops, and operate successful holistic health practices. I am thrilled that our new campus will provide even more opportunities for ACHS to support our growing student body to continue to flourish both inside and outside the online classroom.”
