This course directs students in the process and development of their dissertation research proposal. It is the first of three courses in planning, implementing, and completing their dissertation. Students will choose their dissertation committee, develop and write their dissertation proposal, and draft the first two chapters in close association with their dissertation chair. Additionally, if the proposed study is to work with human subjects, the student will complete an Institutional Review Board (IRB) form and submit it for approval to the IRB committee. Upon approval of the IRB form and completion of the proposal, the student will present this to their dissertation committee. Upon approval of the proposal, the student will advance to doctoral candidacy.

Note, prior to registering for this course, the student will confer with the Dean of Integrative Health & Nutrition to choose a Dissertation Chair who will be the instructor of the DSC 700, 701, and 702 courses. This person must be a faculty member of ACHS, hold a Ph.D. or related terminal degree in the field being studied, and be of appropriate knowledge and skill level to mentor the student. In this course, the student will choose the other members of the dissertation committee who must also have a PhD or related terminal degree in the area of study.
Choose an appropriate dissertation committee;
Analyze research in a dissertation topic;
Develop a conceptual framework and hypothesis for a dissertation study;
Utilize the IRB approval process;
Create and submit a dissertation proposal for their research study plan.

Candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree or higher from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Candidates must submit official transcripts directly from the issuing institution along with one professional letter of recommendation. All applicants must be recommended for admission by the ACHS Admissions Committee.
