Dr. Janet Ludwig, Ph.D.

Dean of Doctoral Studies

Janet grew up in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Her father, an M.D., was deeply committed to caring for his patients through office visits, hospital work—including surgery—and house calls. He practiced Integrative Healthcare, and Janet was raised in that environment. She continued to study integrative approaches throughout her education and later pursued research through NIH funding, focusing on the inflammatory process as a cause of disease. Teaching has always been an integral part of her journey.

Her father’s commitment to improving health and wellness significantly influenced her career. Janet’s expertise includes a deep understanding of the cellular and biochemical mechanisms behind inflammation, as well as strategies to balance this process through nutrition, lifestyle choices, social and spiritual connections, and Western medicine. She believes that an integrative approach is essential to achieving whole-body wellness.

Janet has published in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as trace metals, lipid peroxidation, and the mechanism of action of the inflammatory mediator platelet-activating factor. She contributed to the writing of a textbook on inflammation and has presented her research at national and international professional conferences. Janet received an NIH Research Career Development Award for her studies and has developed nutrition programs for several online universities.

“What excites me most about integrative health is the opportunity to empower individuals to take charge of their health through personalized strategies that enhance their quality of life and promote long-term vitality. Furthermore, assisting students into the mechanisms of the inflammatory process, provides insights that can further improve overall health outcomes.”
