Margaret is from Richmond, VA, and her interest in aromatherapy began with her love of culinary herbs. Cooking led her to have a culinary and medicinal garden, and she eventually started a business making herbal gifts and skin care products. To ensure the safety of her products, she sought out an education in herbs and aromatherapy, which led to incorporating these elements into her holistic skin care clinic. This journey began 30 years ago, and she continues to learn about herbs and aromatherapy, enjoying teaching the next generation of aromatherapy practitioners. Margaret now looks forward to researching the medicinal uses of essential oils.
Having experienced many childhood ailments that allopathic medicine could not resolve, Margaret decided to return to nature and live a holistic lifestyle, which has proven to be beneficial for her and her family.
As President of the Virginia Herb Association, Margaret had the opportunity to meet many renowned herbalists and aromatherapists, such as James Duke, David Hoffman, and Portia Mears. She has been a guest speaker on aromatherapy at conferences such as the North Carolina Herb Association and numerous national skin care conferences. One of her major accomplishments was being appointed to the Board for Barbers & Cosmetology by the Governor of Virginia. This board oversees regulations for barbers, cosmetologists, estheticians, waxing, nails, tattooing, and body piercing. Margaret has served on this board for 12 years and currently holds the position of Chair.
Margaret has taught aromatherapy for over 25 years to estheticians and massage therapists, including 9 years at ACHS. She has a background in health and wellness, manufacturing, teaching, and clinical practice. Margaret is a Certified Aromatherapist, holds a diploma in Holistic Health Practice, and has oncology training in skincare. She was nominated by the Governor of VA to serve on the Board of Barbers & Cosmetology and received the 2021 Distinguished Teaching Award. Margaret participated in the 2019 Aromatherapy & Cancer Care Webinar Series, and an ACHS Webinar on Carrier Oils used in Aromatherapy.
Margaret shares the following quote by Lee Horbachewski with all her students entering the field of aromatherapy: “One tiny drop, one small action, one little step, can and does create change.”
