Professor Lisa Warman was born and raised in Northern Kentucky. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Communications from Florida State University, where she competed as a Division 1 volleyball player and worked as a sports broadcaster for 12 years. After transitioning to the high school English classroom in 2004, she completed her Master of Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Literature from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, in 2009. She has taught college English courses since 2010, including English Composition I and II, Introduction to Literature, Contemporary Literature, and Scientific Research Methods.
In addition to teaching and serving as the ACHS Director of Peer Tutoring, Lisa is a RYT 500 Yoga and meditation teacher. Her love for teaching English and passion for yoga and wellness brought her to ACHS in 2018. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, practicing and teaching Yoga and meditation, attending live sporting events, and spending time outdoors biking, horseback riding, and hiking.
Prior to teaching at the college level, she worked as a high school English teacher and English Department Chair in Orlando, Florida, where she coached boys’ and girls’ volleyball and track and field. She has studied the works of Shakespeare and British Romantic poets in summer programs at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. In 2010, she was a National Endowment of Humanities Grant recipient and studied the works of Chaucer in London, UK. Professor Warman continues to fulfill her love of teaching English and her passion for travel by attending conferences for English teachers.
Lisa considers herself a coach more than a teacher. Her experience as a Division 1 athlete and high school coach has helped to develop her skills as an English teacher who focuses on motivation, participation, and progress through feedback rather than just assigning grades. Her experience as a yoga and meditation teacher and practitioner helps her to remind students to remain grounded in their breath to support their awareness of the body and mind and keep a balanced perspective when navigating life challenges. Lisa is also the founder and director of the ACHS Peer Tutor Center.
Lisa was awarded the Excellence in Higher Education Award from Pearson in 2023 and has received the Rising Star Faculty Award in 2019, the Distinguished Faculty Award in 2021, and the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Personally, she is most proud of her son, a first-grade teacher for a Title 1 school in Orlando, Florida.
Lisa is the founder and director of the ACHS Peer Tutor Center, a member of the Assessment Leadership Council, and has presented webinars on Humanizing Online Learning, Sustainable Travel Tips, and Befriending Stress.
“I’m excited about seeing my students create persuasive written and visual content that demonstrates their passion for integrative health through logic, passion, and credibility.”
