This course will explore innovative health promotion strategies to enhance positive health behaviors. Current global health issues and their relevance to health promotion and the field of public health are examined through analysis and application of best practice principles including assessments for effectiveness. Topics will include community organization, coalition building, curriculum development, communication theory and technology, social marketing, mass media and ecological models. Students focus on social determinants and a multi-faceted approach to promoting health through research, practice, policy, and advocacy.
Identify stakeholders for programs in health promotion.
Examine strategies for reducing health disparities through nutrition and health promotion programs.
Identify barriers to changing behaviors.
Develop strategies which can be utilized to overcome barriers.
Summarize the importance of educating policymakers regarding nutrition and food policies.
Develop actions to positively influence the holistic health and nutrition profession.

Candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree or higher from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Candidates must submit official transcripts directly from the issuing institution along with one professional letter of recommendation.
