Advanced Nutrition Principles II Online

Overview

This course continues from NUT 301, presenting principles of nutrition through the study of human metabolism and nutrients essential to human life. Emphasis will be on understanding therapeutic nutrition recommendations for health through the life cycles and for physical performance. The course will include practical experiences in assisting individuals in diet modification, community service related to food production/consumption, and research of specific diet recommendations.

Learning Outcomes

  • Differentiate the Vitamins, Minerals, and Trace Minerals and extrapolate their importance in health.

  • Summarize and be able to apply the principles of Nutrition for sports performance.

  • Categorize eating disorders and differentiate their treatments.

  • Evaluate diets for specific disease conditions.

  • Review life cycle nutrition and be able to adapt it for pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adulthood.

  • Analyze nutrient-drug interactions and other nutrition-related concerns.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of metabolism and predict how it influences energy balance, body composition, and weight management.
