Integrative Health and Nutrition Fundamentals Online

Overview

NUT 501 is a graduate-level survey course in advanced applied holistic nutrition and explores the role of macronutrients, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals, and phytonutrients in a holistic lifestyle. This course also reviews factors that affect nutrition and principles of holistic health and nutrition to support health and wellness in all stages of the lifecycle. Food/dietary supplement drug interactions are also studied. The overall focus is on holistic nutrition and wellness, healthy lifestyle choices and prevention as the best “medicine”, and how concepts of nutrition can be integrated into every wellness plan.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the role of macronutrients, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals, and phytonutrients in a holistic lifestyle.

  • Compare nutrients based on their Dietary Reference Intake (DRI), deficiency signs, dietary supplement, and drug interactions.

  • Evaluate the role of nutrition and lifestyle in nutrition-related pathologies.

  • Apply the principles of holistic health and nutrition to health and wellness in all stages of the lifecycle.

  • Evaluate concepts, approaches, methods, and issues in the field of nutrition.

  • Develop a strategy to observe, monitor, and track food intake and activity.

Admissions Requirements:

Candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree or higher from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Candidates must submit official transcripts directly from the issuing institution along with one professional letter of recommendation. All applicants must be recommended for admission by the ACHS Admissions Committee.
