Dr. Van Jimenez originally hails from southwestern Virginia and began his career as a high school English teacher. Inspired by his own teachers, he wanted to help others learn to love and appreciate reading and writing. His goal was to give back to the small community where he grew up.
Believing that education should be a great equalizer, an aid to communities, and a path to success, he found inspiration in his English language learners and colleagues. Their influence motivated him to pursue higher education and pivot his career toward working with adults. A passion for fitness and martial arts also led him to become a personal trainer.
Although he started as a high school English teacher, his career expanded to teaching English as a Foreign Language in South Korea, middle school language arts, and English as a Second Language in schools across Virginia, South Korea, Louisiana, and North Carolina. He has also worked as a teacher trainer, mentor, and professor of graduate education courses. In 2019, he landed his first adjunct position with an online university. Over the years, he earned both a Master of Education and an Education Doctorate.
His areas of expertise include language acquisition, instructional methods, design and technology, writing composition, analytical reading strategies, and research methods. He also has some modest skills in the healthcare sciences, thanks to a diploma in Dietary Supplement Science, a black belt in two forms of taekwondo, and certification as a personal trainer.
Some accomplishments of Dr. Van Jimenez received awards: Teacher of the Year (2016-2017, 2018-2019), ELMO Language Teaching Award (2023-2024), featured in the Eyes on Alamance 2025 Art Exhibit (as a writer).
Currently, Dr. Van Jimenez is working with Alamance Community Services on a joint project with Elon University to serve families who are food insecure in Alamance County; strategic planning with non-profits in Alamance through United Way to serve unhoused community members.
“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the educational journey for people who will go on to serve their communities in a variety of capacities through sustainable practices and holistic modalities. The stone only knows how far it is thrown – but it may never know how far the ripples may reach.”
