Joel Strimling

Senior Student Advisor

Joel started with ACHS in 2005 after years of experience at both HP and the Oregon Symphony, where he worked in technical support, marketing, training, and advising. His roles consistently focused on supporting and educating others while fostering empathy and understanding. ACHS became the next step in his journey, allowing him to continue helping others while contributing to the college’s growth.

He was drawn to ACHS by the dedication of its founder and the small but committed team working together to support students—not only in advancing the college’s mission but in helping individuals achieve their goals and successes. Being part of a smaller organization provided a close-knit, family-like environment where even students were considered part of the ACHS community.

Joel’s diverse background includes working as a wildland firefighter, navigating tough and dangerous conditions in the wilderness, and serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where compassion and care were essential in supporting both patients and their families. He also led and trained teams at HP, focusing on both community and internal support, and played a key role in the Oregon Symphony’s large-scale growth campaign, educating and advising patrons while engaging with a diverse clientele. Additionally, he coached a highly competitive canoe and kayak team, tailoring guidance to help each athlete achieve their unique goals.

Joel finds great fulfillment in working with students, from their first days at ACHS to their final term and beyond. When graduates excitedly exclaim, “We did it!” and include him in their celebration, he considers it an incredibly humbling experience.

“Working to solve student challenges and see them successful in their goals and seeing graduates succeed after their education.”
