Julie M. Moreschi lives in Naperville Illinois, and has been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist since 1985. She currently works full time as a Regional Specialist for the University of Illinois Extension Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed). Julie earned her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from Rush University.
Since childhood, Julie has had an interest in all things food and nutrition, which lead her to a career in dietetics. As her career developed, Julie’s interest led her to applying her knowledge and skills in the areas of public health nutrition and teaching. Public health nutrition helps us to support community members in making healthy choices that impact their overall health and wellness.
She worked for 21 years as the Dietetic Internship Director at Benedictine University located in Lisle, IL. Julie also worked in hospitals in both clinical nutrition and food service management roles. She has supported her profession by serving in various volunteer and elected positions in both regional and state dietetic associations.
Julie has been working as an educator for several decades. Julie’s professional interests lie primarily in the areas of community nutrition, maternal and child wellness, and obesity prevention/intervention across the life cycle. She is a chapter author in two textbooks—Managing Food and Nutrition Services for the Culinary, Hospitality, and Nutrition Professions and Nutrition and Public Health—and is involved in many community organizations. Julie is also experienced in accreditation processes, and bring skills related to quality assessment to her role.
She is proud of the variety of positions that she has held in her career, and her active role in various professional organizations. In her role as a Dietetic Internship Director, she created the majority of the curricula for the program, expanded enrollment, and the program had an impressive pass rate for the RD registration exam. Julie is becoming more active in the areas of climate change and sustainable food systems which is critical to our food systems and population health.
Throughout her career, she has given a variety of professional presentations, served a editor/reviewer, received a few grants, as well as being a co-author to a variety of publications in peer-reviewed journals
“My greatest enjoyment is working with students, to not only share knowledge with them but also learn from their experience and expertise. The field is continually growing and changing, which allows for continuous education. Also, when working with clients it is key to embrace the whole person and to combine modalities of treatment to lead to enhanced health outcomes, and I am honored to be involved in a field that can support and enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities”
