Dr. Santiago Lorenzo was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He moved to the United States in 1999 with a scholarship from the University of Oregon to compete in track & field. He received his B.S. (Exercise and Movement Science), M.S. (Exercise Physiology), and Ph.D. (Exercise and Environmental Physiology) from the University of Oregon. His graduate research focused on understanding the physiological mechanisms by which heat, cold, or altitude affect exercise performance in athletes.
Dr. Lorenzo was inspired to join ACHS because of its holistic approach to education and commitment to integrative health. The focus on evidence-based, natural medicine aligns with his passion for empowering students with a well-rounded understanding of health and wellness. Additionally, the student body at ACHS is incredibly mature, driven, and dedicated to their studies, creating an enriching academic environment. Being part of an institution that values lifelong learning and holistic well-being makes this a truly rewarding experience for him.
After finishing his doctorate in April 2010, Dr. Lorenzo moved to Dallas (TX) to do a postdoctoral fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He conducted research studies investigating mechanisms of shortness of breath with exertion in obese individuals until June 2012. Dr. Lorenzo earned a M.S. in Medical Education from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. During his time as an athlete, Dr. Lorenzo won the Conference Title twice and became the NCAA Champion in 2001. He is also proud to be an Olympian in the decathlon as he competed for Argentina in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Dr. Lorenzo brings a strong background in physiology, medical education, and research, with expertise in integrative health, exercise science, and problem-based learning. His experience in curriculum development, student assessment, and online education enables him to effectively support diverse learning needs. Additionally, his leadership roles in academia have strengthened his ability to mentor students and collaborate with faculty. With a passion for holistic health and evidence-based practices, he contributes a well-rounded perspective that aligns with the mission of ACHS.
Fun fact, Dr. Lorenzo is an NCCA Champion, 2004 Olympian, husband and father.
“What excites me most about working in integrative health and wellness is the opportunity to empower students with evidence-based knowledge that bridges traditional and holistic approaches. Seeing students grow into well-rounded professionals who can make a meaningful impact on health and well-being is truly rewarding.”
