NUT 303 provides an in-depth exploration of nutrition sequentially from embryo to old age. It covers specific factors that influence health and dietary behaviors and considerations for specific life spans, such as nutrition needs during pregnancy and breastfeeding and during infancy to adolescence—including nutrition for children with developmental delays and disabilities. This course discusses dietary and activity patterns that promote optimum health and reduced risk of chronic disease in the adult years.
Analyze the specific dietary requirements for normal and high-risk pregnancies and be able to apply them in a diet plan
Understand and assimilate the dietary considerations for growth and development of children, preschool through preadolescence, including nutrition for children with special needs, and be able to develop a diet plan
Differentiate the dietary considerations for adolescence, adulthood, aging, and older adults and be able to develop a diet plan
Examine the special concerns across the lifespan, such as anorexia, bulimia, and obesity
Review and discuss the adaptations in nutrient use during physical activity
