Christiaan Van Jimenez (1)

Assistant Professor

As a first-generation college graduate, Christiaan Van Jimenez first earned a Bachelor of Science from Radford University in English-Education, later a Master of Education in English Language Learner Instruction from American Public University, and finally an Education Doctorate in Teacher Leader in Digital Transformation from Capella University. He taught high school English in Virginia near his hometown before moving to South Korea to teach it as a language for a year. Later he taught in Baton Rouge for two years in an online school before doing the same in North Carolina for four. He currently teaches English Language Learners for a public school in North Carolina during the day. In the evenings, he teaches Master of Education Courses online for two universities in addition to teaching English/Philosophy courses at American College of Health Sciences.

Outside of work and academia, Dr. Van Jimenez believes in living a healthy lifestyle and helping others to do the same. He is a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach through the International Sports Science Association and is pursuing a diploma in Dietary Supplement Science from Huntington University of Health Sciences. He is also an accomplished martial artist with black belts in two forms of taekwondo, even having competed on the national stage on occasion. His background with fitness and education has led him to perform advocacy and equity work in spaces where appropriate. The freelance fitness and health coaching he provides is tailored to individuals who are often marginalized such as the LGBTQ+ and Latin-American communities.

When he is not working on his next degree or certification, Dr. Van Jimenez can generally be found at home where he enjoys cooking for his loved ones. He is an avid gardener, having been raised in a rural community. He is also a gamer who enjoys the story and grandeur of sweeping roleplay games, the story-telling of which inspired him to publish half a dozen books of varying topics under his birth name, Chris Van Dyk. He currently resides in North Carolina with his husband and their cat. His future plans involve going back to school once again to earn a Master of Science in Exercise Science to help him work with a wider range of clients in different settings.
