ACHS Named 2012 Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine

American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) Awarded Military Friendly School Title from G.I. Jobs

Portland, Oregon–September 13, 2011–G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has awarded American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) the designation of Military Friendly School. The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.

In its effort to help student veterans find the right school, G.I. Jobs incorporated a survey of student veterans for the first time. This feedback provides prospective military students with insight into the student veteran experience at a particular institution based on peer reviews from current students. Student veteran survey feedback can be viewed at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com/2012 list.

“The Military Friendly Schools list is the go-to resource for prospective student veterans searching for schools that provide the right overall experience. Nothing is more compelling than actual feedback from current student veterans,” says Michael Dakduk, Executive Director for the Student Veterans of America.

ACHS Director of Military Relations Kate Harmon adds, “ACHS is committed to providing the best overall educational experience we can for our active duty, veteran, and military spouse students, including 24/7 support, flexible online studies, and highly interactive course content. Our primary goal is to help students achieve their goals, whether they are short-term goals for personal health or long-term goals educating military and non-military clients about holistic approaches to health.”

ACHS offers accredited online degrees, diplomas, and career-training certificates in complementary alternative medicine, including the programs Certified Wellness Coach, Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant, Certificate in Aromatherapy, Holistic Health Practitioner, and Associate of Applied Science and Master of Science in Complementary Alternative Medicine.

ACHS also participates in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and is a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), strictly complying with SOC principles and criteria for flexible programs, including accommodations for non-traditional learners, a fully online format, and 24-hour access.

The 1,518 colleges, universities and trade schools on the 2012 Military Friendly Schools ® list prioritize the recruitment of students with military experience. These schools are making the grade by offering scholarships and discounts, veterans’ clubs, full-time staff, military credit, and other services to those who served. The 2012 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria, and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.  A full list of board members can be found at http://militaryfriendlyschools.com/Article/advisory-board/.
