FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portland, OR—October 30, 2014—As the holistic health and wellness industry continues to gain mainstream acceptance, more active duty, retired, and family members of the military are looking to this field as a secondary or complementary career option to their military service.
As with any growing field, it can be difficult to decide on a program that incorporates academic integrity and affordability, as well as specialized support for military students. However, a holistic health education is becoming more accessible for military servicemembers and veterans. The Department of Defense (DoD) has approved the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) as an institution in the Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This allows ACHS to provide military servicemembers the option to participate in the DoD Tuition Assistance (TA) program.
“For the past six years we’ve had the distinct pleasure of being recognized as a Military Friendly® institution by G.I. Jobs magazine,” says Dorene Petersen, Founder and President of ACHS. “As an approved educator under the new DoD MOU program, we are committed to providing affordable, flexible online programs of high academic integrity to our military students. Our military servicemembers and veterans have protected us and served us at great sacrifice, and we are dedicated to helping them and their families achieve their academic and holistic health goals.”
According to the DoD, participation in the TA program requires that the educational institutions:
- Must be accredited by a national or regional accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education (DoED)
- Certified to participate in federal student aid programs through the DoED under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965
- VA approved
- Agree to adhere to rigorous academic integrity and comprehensive student support initiatives, among other requirements
