FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Portland, OR—May 13, 2015Lisa Powell (MS CAM, FDN) is the first American College of Healthcare Sciences graduate of the Master of Science in Complementary Alternative Medicine to achieve Board Certification in Holistic Nutrition® from the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board (HNCB).

“This credential is important for me to be able to stand out as a distinctive health educator and practitioner,” Powell says. “It also helps create a path for the holistic nutrition community to be a stronger voice in the healthcare field. Along with my advanced degree from ACHS, it was a necessary next step for my profession.”

Powell is current Chapter President of the Holistic Chamber of Commerce in Portland, Oregon and completed her MS in Complementary Alternative Medicine in 2013, which qualified her to sit for the HNCB Exam. She also holds Graduate Certificates in Anatomy and Physiology, Aromatherapy, Botanical Safety, and Nutrition from ACHS.

As a health educator who coaches integrative practitioners on nutritional support for their patients and clients, Powell represents high-quality formulations (such as Designs for Health) and has also worked in custom contract manufacturing for dietary supplements.

“Lisa is the first of our graduates to achieve this impressive distinction,” says ACHS President and Founder Dorene Petersen. “By achieving this credential, Lisa joins a body of professionals who have demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of holistic health and nutrition. We’re extremely proud of her achievement.”

Upon successful passage of the Exam, examinees receive recognition as “Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition®” from the HNCB. The Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board (HNCB) is a credentialing body founded in 2003 as a division of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP). The HNCB Exam and credential recognizes holistic nutrition professionals who have achieved advanced competency in holistic nutrition. HNCB certified professionals work to advance careers in nutrition by promoting a holistic perspective and empowerment model of nutrition education and consulting.

“There’s a strong demand for the skill sets that nutrition professionals provide,” Powell says. “We need to make the investment into such a credential so those outside of the holistic health community can see the level of knowledge we have and the commitment we are willing to make.”

Powell was interviewed by ACHS at the 2015 NANP Conference in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Watch the video interview below or online at: https://achsedu.wistia.com/medias/csza8s6vqy
