Portland, Ore. — August 10, 2017— American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) announces that is has been honored with the 2017 When Work Works Award in recognition of its innovative, effective, and flexible workplace practices. ACHS is one of 13 winners in Oregon; 2017 winners are from 44 states and the District of Columbia. This is the second consecutive year ACHS has received a When Work Works Award.
The When Work Works Award recognizes model employers for their best practices. The award is sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and recognizes employers that are excelling at offering a variety of top-rated employee benefits like flexible scheduling, paid parental leave, and dependent care subsidy.
“We’re honored to be recognized with a When Work Works Award for the second year in a row,” says Dorene Petersen, ACHS president and founder. “At ACHS, we believe that true health and happiness comes from a holistic approach to all that we do. Our commitment to family friendly and flexible workplace practices empowers our employees to live what we teach, which is integral to the success of our mission and vision and supporting the students and graduates we serve.”
The When Work Works Award is the result of a rigorous assessment that emphasizes employees’ experiences; two-thirds of ACHS’s winning score was based on employee survey results. The Award also incorporates national benchmarks from the National Study of Employers and the National Study of the Changing Workforce. Worksites must demonstrate a commitment to innovation that incorporates not just work-life programs, but also effective, evidence-based practices like: autonomy; supervisor support for job success; co-worker support for job success; satisfaction with earnings, benefits, and opportunities to advance; opportunities for learning; and a culture of trust, respect, and belonging.
